Duration of the test: approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes in total

Why should I take the PET exam?

The Cambridge PET exam proves that the student has a strong command of all the key language skills and is able to use English confidently in everyday situations.

With the PET exam, you’ll be able to:

  • read textbooks and simple articles in English
  • write letters and emails about everyday topics
  • take notes at work meetings
  • express your feelings and opinions in both written and spoken English

The PET exam requires candidates to display the skills necessary to get by in English in everyday situations, for example on a trip abroad. You’ll also need to demonstrate the ability to understand people speaking about everyday topics, and to discuss your personal experiences, interests and preferences.

The PET is currently one of the most sought-after English qualifications, especially among students in higher education, as most universities require undergraduates to demonstrate a B1 in another language before they can receive their degree certificate.
