CUÁNDO USAR EL GERUNDIO
Utilizaremos el gerundio cuando:1. La palabra es sujeto de una oración:
Smoking is unhealthy.
Fumar es insano.
2. Después de una preposición:
I’m interested in spending the summer in London.
Me interesa pasar el verano en Londres.
3. Después de ciertos verbos:
- Avoid: evitar I avoid going to the gym on weekends.
- Can’t stand: no soportar I can’t stand working on the computer.
- Don’t mind: no importar I don’t mind doing your part.
- Enjoy: disfrutar I enjoy going to concerts with you.
- Finish: terminar I finished writing the book.
- Give up: rendirse I give up smoking.
- Hate: odiar I hate working on Sundays.
- Like: gustar I like painting.
- Love: encantar I love cooking.
- Prefer: preferir I prefer dancing than running.
CUÁNDO USAR EL INFINITIVO
Utilizamos el infinitivo cuando:1. Sigue a un adjetivo:
I was sad to miss the concert.
Estaba triste por perderme el concierto.
2. Después de adjetivo + ‘enough:
He is smart enough to pass the exam.
Él es suficientemente inteligente para aprobar el examen.
3. Después de ciertos verbos:

- Forget: olvidar. I always forget to close the door.
- Help: ayudar. I will help you to pass your exam.
- Learn: aprender. I learnt to drive the last month.

- Agree: estar de acuerdo. I agree to share the expenses.
- Want: querer. I want to learn German.
- Encourage: animar. I encourage you to live abroad for a year.
- Pretend: aparentar. He pretended to be interested in the subject.
- Promise: prometer. I promise to do sports this week.
- Try: intentar. She tried to follow the dance steps.
- Hope: esperar. I hope to see you again.
- Decide: decidir. I decided to leave the school.
- Choose: elegir. We chose to move to Australia.
