The 3 YLE exams

The YLE exams are divided into 3 different levels: Starters, Movers and Flyers. In each exam, the student will be exposed to familiar topics and situations, and all three exams assess the full range of communicative skills: oral comprehension (listening), oral production (speaking), written comprehension (reading) and written production (writing).

YLE STARTERS

The first step in your child’s language learning journey. A Starters certificate proves that they can:

  • understand basic written English
  • express themselves in familiar situations
  • form simple sentences and use basic expressions
  • interact with someone who addresses them slowly and clearly in English

YLE MOVERS

Stage two. Students who take the Movers test develop skills including:

  • following basic directions and taking part in simple conversations
  • understanding notices, instructions and other simple types of information
  • filling in simple forms and writing notes that include things like times, dates and places

YLE FLYERS

The perfect way to show that your child can use English in everyday life. Successful candidates will be able to:

  • understand basic written English
  • form and understand simple sentences, and use basic expressions
  • interact with someone who speak to them slowly and clearly in English

At Number 16 school your kids have the option of preparing for a Cambridge exam. Our specialised teachers can help your child obtain an official English certificate that will bring them real benefits in the future.

The Cambridge YLE exams are internationally recognised, and they’re a great way to make English the cornerstone of your child’s education. For instance, for our Number 16 Kids students, who already thrive in a multicultural environment, the YLE exams provide the perfect opportunity for them to demonstrate their advanced knowledge of English.

At Number 16 we prepare our kids for the exams through play and interaction, which is something they’re already used to. The YLE exams may be a challenge, but our kids face it with enthusiasm thanks to the spontaneity and self-confidence they’ve picked up in Number 16 KIDS.

Moreover, we’re an official Cambridge Exam Preparation Centre, which means that the exams can be taken on our premises. Your kids can sit their official YLE exam without needing to set foot outside their comfort zone.
